Criminal History Check

Did the applicant steal a stick of gum or commit a real crime?

Criminal history background checks are important. A search of public records is available from any of the 3300+ county courthouses in the United States along with 42 statewide repositories plus D.C. that provides both felony and/or misdemeanor reports. Generally, the search is conducted in the individual county courts where the applicant resides and/or works, or as requested by the client.

Tandem Select suggests conducting a criminal history search of current and previous addresses of residence and on names associated with the individual’s social security number.

What if I need more detail from a county court?

Our nationwide network of court researchers physically go into the courthouse to ensure our clients are provided with the most up-to-date and accurate information. This is the most comprehensive source of information about criminal activity and provides results related to criminal charges, dates, sentencing and dispositions, for felonies and/or misdemeanors in the county seat court of the requested jurisdiction. Detailed dockets and supporting information are also available.

What if more than one county should be researched?

A metro area search is a compilation of county level searches located in metropolitan areas. They can be created as a way of checking criminal history where residency and employment may extend beyond a single county.

Can we pull a ciminal record for an entire state?

Statewide repositories for each state vary in detail and scope of information available. Data may reflect arrest information obtained by police departments, county cases forwarded from local courts, or other criminal data housed by the state.

Tandem Select offers a preferred state list to assist our clients in determining whether to conduct a statewide or county search.

How about a Federal criminal record?

A Federal district search provides information on criminal activity that occurred outside state or local jurisdictions and that was prosecuted at the district court level.

Examples of criminal activity that will show in a Federal district search, include kidnapping, drug trafficking, interstate transportation of stolen goods, bank robbery, and embezzlement.

Military related crimes are also found in a Federal court search.
